What is a check-in?
A check-in is a single tap that tells the page you are okay, with a time and, if you allow it, your position. You can do it from your phone, your watch or a home-screen widget without opening the app. It sends when you next have signal.
What happens if I miss a check-in?
The page states how long it has been since your last check-in, in plain words: 'No check-in for 14 hours.' There is no alarm colour and nobody is contacted.
Is Trailpost a safety device?
No. Trailpost is a progress page for the people at home. It does not contact rescue services, it cannot locate you if your phone is off, and it should never be the thing between you and help. On remote routes carry a satellite messenger such as a Garmin inReach or a phone with satellite SOS, and tell the people following you which one you have.
How do I stop the page worrying people?
Post or check in each evening, even a one-word status. Tell followers in your first post that gaps are normal where signal is poor. If you know a day will be out of coverage, say so the night before; the page will still show your last position and the expected finish.
